India spinner Varun Chakaravarthy added to India squad for the 3 match ODI series which is scheduled to begin from Febrauary 6^th onwards. His inclusion in the team comes after his outstanding performance in the shortest format of the game.

Chakaravarthy took 14 wickets in 5 matches including one five wicket haul in recently concluded T20I series against England which India won in 4-1 margin. Recently he has been in form of his life.

His inclusion in the squad added India’s tally of spinners in the squad to five with Kuldeep Yadhav , Washington Sundar , Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja already in the squad.

He joined India squad in Nagpur , the venue for the first ODI against England. Chakaravarthy was seen bowling and training in the nets on Tuesday.

Chakaravathy who was the second highest wicket taker in this season’s Vijay Hazare Trophy. He picked 18 wickets in 6 matches for Tamilnadu. So far he played only 23 List A games.

Varun is yet to make his ODI debut for India. From 18 T20Is he played for India he took 33 wickets at an average of 14.57 at an economy of 7.02.

BCCI have time until the conclusion of England series to make any changes in India squad for Champions Trophy. As per ICC rules all teams have to name their final squads for the ICC Champions Trophy by February 11.

Retired India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin backs to include Varun Chakaravarthy in the squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy.

“We are all talking about whether he should have been there (Champions Trophy Squad). I am thinking there is a chance he might be there. I have a feeling he might make it. There is a chance because all teams have named only a provisional squad. So he might be picked,” R Ashwin said on his Youtube channel.
