South Africa star pacer Gerald Coetzee has been ruled out of the ODI tri-series and Champions Trophy in Pakistan due to groin injury. He injured his left hamstring during the SA20 and was ruled out of the tournament.
“The 24 -year old experienced tightness in his groin while completing his 10 overs at training on Wednesday morning at the Centre of Excellence in Pretoria. Following further assessment by the Proteas medical team, it was determined that the symptoms posed an increased risk of significant injury at a higher bowling load required for the upcoming 50-over matches,” CSA’s official statement.

The Proteas confirmed that Coetzee will not be available for selection for the 2025 Champions Trophy , which begins of February 19. “Coetzee will not be considered for selection for ICC Champions Trophy 2025,” concluded the statement.
Gerald Coetzee was in line to replace the injured Anrich Nortje , but Coetzee complained of tightness in his groin while bowling at Centre of Excellence in Pretoria. So far Coetzee played 14 ODIs and picked 31 wickets with best bowling figures of 4/44.
South Africa will face New Zealand in their first match of tri-series in Lahore on February 10 before taking on Pakistan. South Africa placed in Group B for Champions Trophy along with England , South Africa and Afghanistan.
South Africa named 6 uncapped players in the 12 member squad for the first match of the tri series against New Zealand. The squad for the remainder of the tri-series will be announced after SA20 final.

Keshav Maharaj and Heinrich Klassen will join the team ahead of the match against Pakistan on February 12.
They will begin their Champions Trophy campaign against Afghanistan on February 21st.
