Afghanistan have named a 15 member squad for the three match T20I series against India with several key players included. Pacer Naveen ul Haq returns to Afghanistan’s side after playing his last match for the team in December 2024. Ibrahim Zadran will lead Afghanistan as the new T20I captain in the upcoming series against India.
Naveen ul Haq suffered a stress fracture in his right shoulder which kept him out of international cricket for almost two years. Due to his injury, Naveen ul-Haq missed the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup in 2026. He retired from ODI cricket after the conclusion of the 2023 ODI World Cup, focusing only on T20 cricket. He was just 24 at the time of retirement.

Ibrahim Zadran replaces Raashid Khan as Afghanistan’s new T20I captain. Afghanistan removed Rashid Khan as captain mainly because the team failed to reach the super 8 stage of the 2026 T20 World Cup.
Uncapped wicketkeeper Noor ul Rahman has joined the squad as backup keeper behind Rahmanullah Gurbaz. His outstanding domestic cricket performances and strong display in Shpageeza Cricket League earned him a place in the squad. The 22 year old left arm spinner returns to the squad after missing Afghanistan’s 2026 T20 World Cup campaign.
Afghanistan will host India for three T20Is with all matches taking place at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The three matches will be played on September 13,15 and 17. This series will be Afghanistan’s first T20I matches after the conclusion of the 2026 T20 World Cup.
