On a rain interrupted day India took full control against Srilanka on Day 2 of the second Test match. Dhruv Jurel’s 115 from 117 balls and Rishabh Pant’s 63 from 89 balls helped India reach 503/9. Srilanka lost two wickets in reply and were left struggling at 8/2 at the close of play.

First Session

Resuming from the overnight score of 300/5 India quickly lost debutant Saransh Jain for just 6 runs early. Rishabh Pant who retired hurt on Day 1 returned to bat and built a strong partnership with Dhruv Jurel. Both took India to 419/6 at lunch.

Both wicket keeper batters hit half centuries with Pant on 63 and Jurel reaching 59. They put together a strong 112 run partnership from 152 balls helping India strengthen their position in the match.

Second Session

Spinner Keshara Nuwantha dismissed Rishabh Pant with the first ball after lunch giving Srilanka an early breakthrough in the session. Pant threw his wicket away with a high risk shot which ended in Lahiru Udara’s hand. He scored 63 runs from 89 balls hitting 6 fours and two sixes during his impressive innings.

Manav Suthar made a useful 18 from 51 balls before Prabath Jayasuriya sent him back to the pavilion. A 39 run stand came from 79 balls for the eighth wicket with Jurel playing an important role in the partnership.

Heavy rain forced an early tea break with India reaching 475/8. Two hours of play were lost due to heavy showers with Jurel on 95 and Siraj yet to score.

Third Session

In the third session Jurel scored an outstanding century helping India cross 500 runs and put Srilanka under pressure. Mohammed Siraj’s 3 from 29 balls showed resilience alongside Jurel in a crucial 39 run stand for the ninth wicket. Captain Gill declared India’s innings at 503/9 soon after the team crossed 500 run mark.

Dhruv Jurel remained unbeaten on 115 from 177 balls while Prasidh Krishna stayed not out on 4 from 7 balls.
