India move closer to another Test win against Srilanka on the final day of the Colombo Test. After enforcing the follow on Srilanka reached 229/6 at the end of Day 4. Srilanka currently lead by 16 runs with four wickets in hand.
First Session – Day 4
Resuming at 265/8 Sonal Dinusha and Lahiru Kumara added 23 runs before Lahiru was dismissed for 12 runs. The pair added 58 runs for the ninth wicket before Saransh Jain claimed his first International wicket of his career. Sonal Dinusha hit his second century of the series before becoming the final batter dismissed for 103 by Saransh Jain.
After taking a 213 first innings lead Team India enforced the follow on against Srilanka. Once again Srilanka’s openers failed to give them a good start as Lahiru Udara fell early for three to Mohammed Siraj. Kamil Mishara and Pasindu Sooriyabandara put together a quick 58 run stand for the second wicket. As the partnership looked promising Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Kamil Mishara for 32 to give India a much needed breakthrough.
At the end of the session Srilanka finished on 83/2 with Pasindu Sooriyabandara on 35 and Kamindu Mendis on 10.
Second Session – Day 4
Pasindu Sooryiabandara and Kamindu Mendis added 115 runs from 172 balls giving Srilanka hope of surviving the test. Both batters went on to score their respective half centuries. Prasidh Krishna gave India a much needed breakthrough by dismissing Kamindu Mendis for 55.
Srilanka scored 142 runs in the second session losing only one wicket.
Third Session – Day 4
India made a strong comeback in the final session by picking up three quick wickets and putting Srilanka under pressure. Captain Dhananjaya de Silva was the first batter dismissed in the session scoring 23 runs before Manav Suthar took his wicket.
The second batter to fall was Pasindu Sooriyabandara who scored a well made 92. He was stumped by Rishabh Pant off Manav Suthar while stepping out of his crease to attack. Then wicketkeeper batter Niroshan Dickwella was trapped in front of the stumps by Saransh Jain for 6.
At the end of the day Srilanka were 229/6 when rain and bad light stopped play early.
