38 year old all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin announces his retirement from international cricket with immediate effect after the drawn third test match between India and Australia in Brisbane.

Ashwin made the announcement in the post-match press conference along with captain Rohit Sharma after the game ended in draw. Ashwin played the second test in Adelaide but was replaced by Ravindra Jadeja for the third test.

Ashwin retires from the game as second highest wicket taker for India in tests behind Anil Kumble (619 wickets). Ashwin played 106 tests for India and picked 537 wickets with best bowling figures of 7/59. He also have 6 test hundreds and 14 fifties.

In ODIs he picked 156 wickets from 116 matches and 72 wickets from 65 T20Is. Ashwin will continue playing T20 tournaments and he will represent Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025.

“I won’t take too much of your time. Today will be the last day for me as an India cricketer,” Ashwin said.

“He was very , very sure of his decision. We should stand by what he wants ,” India captain Rohit Sharma said.

“A name synonymous with mastery , wizardry , brilliance and innovation ,” BCCI said.
