Shubman Gill (127* runs from 175 balls) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (101 runs from 159 balls) centuries took India to a commanding position on day 1 of first test at Leeds. Put into bat, India finishes day 1 on 359/3.

India openers K.L.Rahul (42 runs from 78 balls) and Yashasvi Jaiswal gives steady start to Indian innings by scoring 91 runs for the opening wicket. Brydon Carse provided the needed breakthrough for England by dismissing K.L.Rahul.

K.L.Rahul was caught by Joe Root at second slip after edging one of Brydon Carse. He hit 8 boundaries in his knock of 42 with strike rate of 53.84. Sai Sudharsan who walks to bat at No.3 had a forgettable debut as he got out for a duck. He was dismissed by England captain Ben Stokes just before lunch.

From 91/0 India loses 2 wickets in successive overs before lunch and finishes on 92/2.

Jaiswal and Gill batted the whole post lunch session and scored unbeaten 123 runs. Gill scored half century in just 56 balls and Jaiswal hit outstanding century in this stage of play. Jaiswal become the first Indian batter to score centuries in his first test in England and Australia.

England captain Ben Stokes once again provided the breakthrough soon after Lunch. Stokes delivery around the wicket beat Jaiswal’s defense and ball hit the top of the stumps. Jaiswal who known for scoring big hundreds got after adding just one more to three figure score.

Jaiswal and Shubman Gill put together 129 runs for the third wicket.

Rishabh Pant who joined India captain Shubman Gill continued to keep the scoreboard ticking. Both put together unbeaten 138 run partnership for the fourth wicket and took India to 359/3 at end of day 1.

Shubman Gill became the fifth Indian Test batter to hit century on captaincy debut. Vijay Hazare , Sunil Gavaskar , Dilip Vengsarkar and Virat Kohli are the other batters who done it before Gill. He remains unbeaten on 127.

Wicket Keeper batter Rishabh Pant supported his captain with unbeaten 65 runs from 102 balls. He hit 6 boundaries and 2 sixes so far in his innings. During his innings he completed 3000 test runs also.

Ben Stokes (2/43 in 13 overs) and Brydon Carse (1/70 in 16 overs) are the wicket takers for England so far.
