Team India will take field on Friday (June 20) under new captain Shubhman Gill after the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli at Headingley , Leeds for the 5 match test series. India bid to end 18 year wait for a test series win in England.

Gill succeeded Rohit Sharma as captain and most probably will bat at No.4 where Virat Kohli batted for long time. From 32 tests Gill scored 1893 runs with an average of 35.05. He hit 5 hundreds and 7 fifties.

“I believe in leading by example , not just by performance, but, I think , off the field by discipline and hard work,” Shubhman Gill said.

Karun Nair who returns to test squad after 8 years is expected to bat at No.3. He is the second Indian batter to hit triple century in test cricket. He achieved this feet against England in Chennai in 2016. Yashasvi Jaiswal and K.L.Rahul set to open the batting.

In the bowling department India is without Ravichandran Ashwin who retired from test cricket and pacer Mohammed Shami who is yet to recover fully from the angle surgery last year.

Jasprit Bumrah will lead the pace attack along with Mohammed Siraj , Arshdeep Singh , Prasidh Krishna , Akash Deep and Harshit Rana. The team also had two pace bowling allrounders in Shardhul Thakur and Nitish Kumar Reddy.

Along with frontline spinner Kuldeep Yadhav team India have spin bowling allrounders in Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar.

England are without James Anderson and Stuart Board their two most successful bowlers of all time. Archer and Mark Wood , two key bowlers for England currently recovering from injuries. England already named their playing XI for the first test.

In Headingley teams prefer to bowl first. Initially the pitch will help bowlers but it will ease out and conditions will be better for batting. Hot and sunny weather will also play a huge role.
