Mumbai Indians lift WPL Trophy for the second time

Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Capitals by 8 runs and lift the Women Premier League trophy for the second time. They restricted Delhi Capitals to 141/9 after setting them 150 run target. Mumbai captain Harmanpreet Kaur named Player of the Match for her knock of 66 runs from 44 balls.

Elected to bowl first Delhi all-rounder Marizanne Kapp dismissed both Mumbai openers Hayley Matthews (3 runs from 10 balls) and Yastika Bhatia (8 runs from 14 balls) for just 14 runs on the board in 4.3 overs.

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur (66 runs from 44 balls) and Nat Sciver Brunt (30 runs from 28 balls) brought Mumbai back in the game with 89 run partnership in 62 balls. Left arm spinner Shree Charani broke the partnership by dismissing Nat Sciver Brunt for 30 in the 15th over.

Mumbai then lost Amelia Kerr (2 runs from 3 balls) , Sajeevan Sajana (0 run from 2 balls) and captain Harmanpreet Kaur in quick succession. Amanjot Kaur (14* runs from 7 balls) , Gunalan Kamalini (10 runs from 7 balls) and Sanskriti Gupta (8* runs from 5 balls) dragged them to 149/7 in 20 overs.

Marizanne Kapp bowled an amazing spell of 2/11 in her 4 overs. Jess Jonassen (2/26 in 3 overs) and Shree Charani (2/43 in 4 overs) are the other wicket takers for Delhi Capitals.

Chasing 150 runs for the title Delhi Capitals lost Meg Lanning (13 runs from 9 balls) , Shafali Verma (4 runs from 9 balls) , Jess Jonassen (13 runs from 15 balls) and Annabel Sutherland (2 runs from 5 balls) for 44 runs in 8 overs.

Jemmimah Rodrigues (30 runs from 21 balls) and Marizanne Kapp’s (40 runs from 26 balls) innings gives Delhi hope but Nat Sciver Brunt dismissed Marizanne Kapp in the 18th over which took the trophy away from them.

U-19 India captain Nikki Prasad (25* runs from 23 balls) played a handy knock but went in vain as Delhi fell short by 8 runs.

Nat Sciver Brunt (3/30 in 4 overs) , Amelia Kerr (2/25 in 4 overs) , Shabnim Ismail (1/15 in 4 overs) , Saika Ishaque (1/33 in 4 overs) and Hayley Matthews (1/37 in 4 overs) are the wicket takers for Mumbai.
