Veteran Bangladesh cricketer announced his decision to quit International cricket at the age of 39. He retires from Test cricket in 2021 , T20Is in 2024 and ODIs after the Champions Trophy 2025.
In his ODI career Mahmudullah played 239 matches for Bangladesh , scored 5689 runs with an average of 36.46 with highest score of 128*. He hit 4 hundreds and 32 fifties in his illustrious career.

He also picked 82 wickets with best bowling figures of 3/4.
“I have decided to retire from International Cricket. I would like to thank all of my teammates , coaches & specifically my fans who have always supported me. A big thank to my parents , my in-laws , especially my father-in-law & most importantly my brother Emdad Ullah, who has been there for me constantly since my childhood as my coach & mentor,” Mahmudullah said.
“And finally thanks to my wife and kids who have been my support system through thick & thin. I know Raeid will miss me in red & green jersey. Not everything comes to an end in a perfect way but you say yes & move forward. PEACE…………Best wishes to my team and Bangladesh cricket,” Mahmudullah further added.

He finished as Bangladesh fourth highest successful run getter behind Mushfiqur Rahim , Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal. Last week Mushfiqur Rahim also announced his retirement.
Bangladesh lost to India and New Zealand in the recently concluded Champions Trophy and their last match against Pakistan called off due to rain.
Mahmudullah played 50 Tests , 239 ODIs and 141 T20Is for Bangladesh.
