Late wickets push India on back foot against New Zealand on Day 1 of third test

India were 86/4 after bowled New Zealand out for 235 on day 1 of third test. India looked in complete control at 78/1 in penultimate over before kiwis took 3 quick wickets to push India back.

Elected to bat first Kiwis lost Devon Conway (4 runs from 11 balls) early to Akash Deep when the score reaches just 15. Off spinner Washington Sundar then clean bowled Kiwi captain Tom Latham (28 runs from 44 balls) and Rachin Ravindra (5 runs from 12 balls) in quick succession.

Will Young (71 runs from 138 balls) and Daryl Mitchell (82 runs from 129 balls) put together 87 runs for the fourth wicket before Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Will Young. Then Ravindra Jadeja’s 5 wicket haul and Washington Sundar 4 wicket spell bowled New Zealand out for 235 in first innings.

Wicket Takers India:- Ravindra Jadeja (5/65 in 22 overs) , Washington Sundar (4/81 in 18.4 overs) and Akash Deep (1/22 in 5 overs).

53 run second wicket partnership between Shubman Gill (31* runs from 38 balls) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (30 runs from 52 balls) took India to 78/1 after fall of captain Rohit Sharma (18 runs from 18 balls).

3 wickets in last 8 balls before close of play push India on the back foot at the end of day 1. Well set Jaiswal , night watch man Mohammad Siraj for duck and Virat Kohli for 4 are the wickets India lost during this period.

Kohli went for suicidal run as he fell short of the non striker’s end after Matt henry attempted a direct hit at stumps.
