Former Bangladesh captain and allrounder Shakib Al Hasan announces his retirement from T20Is and expressed his desire to retire from tests after the end of home series against South Africa in Mirpur next month.

Shakib’s announcement came a day before the second test against India which is scheduled to take place at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.

However , If he is unable to play the Mirpur test against South Africa next month the ongoing series against India will be his last series in whites for Bangladesh.

“This is the right time to bring in new players. It’s the same vision for T20Is as well. I have spoken to the chief selector and the BCB president and we all felt that this was the right time to move on and allow new players to come up the ranks.

“I have expressed my desire to play my last test in Mirpur, If that won’t happen , the second test against India would be my last. Going back to Bangladesh is not a concern , but leaving Bangladesh once I go there is dangerous.

“It feels fitting to conclude my Test career in front of my home fans. Bangladesh cricket has given me so much, and I want to give my last in this format at home,” Shakib Al Hasan said.

Shakib played 129 T20Is , scored 2551 runs at an average of 23.19 with strike rate of 121.18. He took 149 wickets in this format.

From 70 tests he scored 4600 runs at an average of 38.33 with strike rate of 61.71. With the ball he took 242 wickets in this format for Bangladesh.
