ICC announces massive hike in prize money for women’s T20 world cup

International cricket council increases the prize money for the winners of Women’s T20 World Cup which is scheduled to be held in UAE next month.

The winners will receive prize money of USD 2.34 million an increase of 134% over the USD 1 million Australia were awarded for wining the tournament in 2023.

Now the prize money for the women winners is equal to that of men’s winners. Men’s T20 World Cup champions India received USD 2.45 million cash prize earlier this year.

“The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup will be the first ICC event where women will receive the same prize money as their male counterparts , marking a significant milestone in the sport’s history.

“This move is in line with the ICC’s strategy to prioritize the women’s game and accelerate its growth by 2032. Teams will now receive equal prize money for the equivalent finishing position at comparable events as well as the same amount for winning a match at those events,” ICC said.

The two semi-finalist will earn USD 6,75,000 (up from USD 2,10,000 in 2023). Each win during the group stage will see teams take home USD 31,154.

6 teams who fail to reach the semi-finals will share a pool of USD 1.35 million depending on their finishing positions.

The ninth edition of the tournament will kick start from October 3rd in Sharjah with Bangladesh takes on Scotland and Pakistan playing Srilanka.
