Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting appointed as head coach of Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League. He replaced former England head coach Trevor Bayliss.

Previously with Delhi Capitals since 2018 and Mumbai Indians before that. Ponting led Delhi Capitals to their first IPL final in 2020 and three playoff appearances.

Ponting won his first IPL title as head coach with Mumbai Indians in 2015.

“I am grateful to Punjab Kings for presenting me with the opportunity to be the new head coach. I am excited to take up the new challenge. I had great conversations with the owners and the management about the way forward and was truly elated to see the alignment of our visions for the team. We all want to repay the fans who have stayed with the franchise over the years and we promise that they will see a much different Punjab Kings going forward,” Ricky Ponting said.

As a player Ricky Ponting played 10 IPL matches with Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders.
