Bethell’s unbeaten 76 propels England to 1-0 series lead

Jacob Bethell’s unbeaten 76 off 46 balls helped England beat India and take a 1-0 lead in the series. Batting first India set England a 191 run target but England chased it down in the 19th over with four wicket left. Jacob Bethell was named Player of the match for his outstanding knock.

Toss

After winning the toss India chose to bat first.

India Innings

Fifteen year old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made his India debut replacing Sanju Samson in the playing XI for this match. He scored 14 from 10 balls before being stumped off Will Jacks after stepping out to hit the ball.

Abhishek Sharma and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi gave India a quick start adding 50 runs in just 29 balls. Abhishek Sharma scored 43 off 24 balls hitting eight fours and one six.

Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan added 65 runs in 42 balls helping India build a strong total in the middle overs. Shreyas Iyer scored 37 off 22 balls while Ishan Kishan made 49 off 40.

From overs 14 to 18 India scored only 32 runs and lost two wickets slowing their innings before the finish. Sam Curran’s brilliance with the ball helps England restrict the run flow.

Tilak Varma’s quick 24 off 11 balls helped India finish strongly and set England a target of 191 runs.

England Innings

Left arm pacer Arshdeep Singh gave India a dream start by dismissing Phil Salt and Jos Buttler for ducks in first over. Then captain Harry Brook scored a quick 39 off 15 balls before Axar Patel dismissed him. His innings helped England reach 61 runs in the power Play.

Tom Banton and Jacob Bethell added 67 runs in 50 balls before Arshdeep Singh dismissed Banton for 39 runs.

Jacob Bethell played a superb 76* off 46 balls hitting 5 fours and 5 sixes guiding England home in the 19th over. In Ravi Bishnoi’s 17th over, Bethell scored 29 runs turning the game in England’s favour.
