Team India seeks a fresh start in ODIs after a disappointing test series lost to South Africa. They aim to regain confidence as the series begins in Ranchi. A strong performance is vital for team India to return to winning ways.
Team News – India
K.L.Rahul will lead India as Gill and vice-captain Shreyas Iyer are out due to injury. Gill is out due to neck injury and currently undergoing rehab in Mumbai. His return depend on BCCI medical clearance. Shreyas Iyer is recovering from spleen injury and internal bleeding and may be out for two to three months.
Another huge miss for India is allrounder Hardik Pandya. He fully recovered from a left quadriceps injury. He will return to competitive cricket with Baroda in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in December. Allrounder Axar Patel and pacer Siraj failed to find a place in the squad.
Team Management has rested Jasprit Bumrah for the ODI series against South Africa as part of workload management.

Wicket keeper batter Quinton de Kock returns to the South Africa ODI squad. He reversed his retirement decision in September 2025. South Africa hopes his presence strengthens their batting and keeping departments. Aiden Markram will be Quinton de Kock’s opening partner.
Injury forces South Africa to rule out Kagiso Rabada from the white ball series.
