India’s Fortress Falls: South Africa poised for 2-0 sweep at home

South Africa stand eight wickets from a historic 2-0 win over India on the final day of second test. They set India mammoth 549 run target on the final innings of the series. At stumps on the fourth day, India stood at 27/2.

First Session – Day 4

Starting from their overnight 26/0, the South African openers contributed 23 more runs to the tally. Jadeja , the left arm spinner , ended the opening partnership by removing Ryan Rickelton for 35.

Jadeja produced another peach of a delivery to dismiss Markram for 29. Captain Bavuma , who came to bat at No.4 , didn’t last long as he was caught at leg slip by Reddy off Washington Sundar.

Tristan Stubbs and Rony de Zorzi guided South Africa to 107/3 at the tea break.

Second Session – Day 4

Stubbs and Zorzi strengthened South Africa’s hold on the match, with a superb hundred run partnership. They added 101 runs off 162 balls before Jadeja trapped Zorzi in front of the stumps. He fell one run short of a well-deserved half century.

The Proteas moved to 220/4 at lunch, with Stubbs and Mulder extending their lead. Stubs remain unnbeaten on 60, while Mulder was not out on 29.

Third Session – Day 4

Even with a massive lead, South Africa continued batting in the final session. Finally they declare at 260/5 after Tristan Stubbs was dismissed for 94. Wiaan Mulder remains unbeaten on 35.

Ravindra Jadeja took four of the five South African wickets to fall in the second innings.

Chasing a massive 549 run target, India lost both openers before the close of play. Pacer Marco Jansen dismissed dangerous Jaiswal for 13, while Harmer got Rahul out for 6.

Night watchman Kuldeep (4*) and Sai Sudharsan (2*) remained unbeaten for India at the close of play.
