Bumrah takes 5/27 as India dominate Day 1 of First Test

Bumrah’s fiery 5/27 on Day 1 helped India bowl out South Africa for just 155 in the first innings. In reply, India reached 37/1 by stumps on Day 1 , closing the day in control.

Toss

South Africa won the toss and elected to bat.

First Session

Openers Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton began positively , scoring quickly in the early overs. They added 57 runs for the first wicket before Bumrah bowled Rickelton for 23. India’s star pacer Bumrah produced another beauty to remove opener Markram for 31 when the score reached 62.

Proteas captain Temba Bavuma didn’t last long either falling to Kuldeep for just 3. Wiaan Mulder and Tony de Zorzi carried South Africa to 105/3 at lunch without losing another wicket.

Second Session

After lunch , South Africa lost Wiaan Mulder quickly. He was trapped in front of the stumps while attempting a reverse sweep, departing for 24. South Africa kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

Bumrah claimed his third wicket by trapping left hander Tony de Zorzi for 24. Mohammed Siraj then removed wicketkeeper batter Kyle Verreynne for 16 and Marco Jansen for 0. Axar Patel trapped Corbin Bosch for 3 on the last ball before tea, pushing South Africa to 154/8 at the break.

Third Session

Simon Harmer and Keshav Maharaj fell quickly to Bumrah in the final session, ending South Africa’s innings on 155. With this , Bumrah completed his 16th five wicket haul in Test cricket.

Jasprit Bumrah once again showed his class with a brillant spell. His accuracy and movement troubled every South African batter. He delivered crucial breakthrough that put India in control.

India Innings

On a bowler’s day, India lost opener Jaiswal for 12 as he dragged one back onto his stumps. K.L.Rahul (13* off 59) and new No.3 batter Washington Sundar (6* off 38) guided India to 37/1.
