India have been fined 5 percent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over rate during the ICC Women World Cup match against Australia. The sanction was imposed after India were found one over short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration.

Michell Periera of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction.

The action was taken in accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences.

Summary of Article 2.22

• It deals with situations where a team fails to bowl their overs within the allotted time.
• Penalty:- Players are fined 5% of their match fee for each one over short , up to a maximum of 50%.
• Captain’s Responsibility:- The captain is held responsible for team’s over rate.
• If a captain commits repeated over rate offences they can also face suspension.
• When a player (or captain) admits the offence and accepts the sanction , no formal hearing is needed.

India captain Harmanpreet Kaur pled guilty of the offence and accepted the proposed sanction , meaning no formal hearing was required.

The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Sue Redfern and Nimali Perera , along with third umpire Kim Cotton and fourth umpire Jacqueline Williams.

Healy’s blistering 142 from 107 balls , including 21 fours and 3 sixes , powered Australia past India’s challenging 331 run total in that match.

With two wins and two loses from four matches, India currently stand at fourth position in the points table.

India set to take on England on October 19 at Holkar Stadium , Indore in their next Cricket World Cup clash.
