Rahul Dravid step down as Rajasthan Royals Head coach ahead of Indian Premier League 2026 season. He was appointed for two years in 2024 but parts away after the franchise offered him a broader role after a recent structural review.

Dravid , who played 46 matches out of 89 IPL matches for Rajasthan Royal took the coaching role after his stint with the Indian Cricket Team ends after the 2024 T20 World Cup win.

In IPL 2025 Rajasthan Royals finished in Ninth position with just 4 wins in 14 matches. Rajasthan Royals captain since 2021 , Sanju Samson has also asked the franchise to be released ahead of next IPL season.

In 2008 Rajasthan Royals won inaugural edition of IPL under the leadership of Shane Warne. Their next best finish came in 2022 , when they finished runners-up to Gujarat Titans.

52 year old legend first joined Rajasthan Royals as player in 2011 and captained them for 2012 and 2013 season. He also served as Team Director and mentor in 2014 and 2015.

“Head coach Rahul Dravid will conclude his tenure with the franchise ahead of IPL 2026. Rahul has been central to the Royals journey for many years. His leadership has influenced a generation of players, instilled strong values within the squad, and left an indelible mark on the culture of the franchise.

“As part of the franchise structural review, Rahul had been offered a broader position at the franchise, but has chosen not to take this. The Rajasthan Royals, its players and millions of fans worldwide extent heartfelt thanks to Rahul for his remarkable service to the franchise,” RR statement said.

The franchise currently have Kumar Sangakkara as Director of Cricket , Vikram Rathore as batting coach and Shane Bond as bowling coach.

Dravid is the second Head coach parted ways with an IPL franchise ahead of 2026 mega auction. Chandrakant Pandit parted ways with Kolkata Knight Riders last month.
