Afghanistan announced squad for Asia Cup; Rashid Khan named captain

Afghanistan announced their full strength 17 member full strength squad for the upcoming Asia Cup to be held in UAE. Star spinner Rashid Khan will lead the side. Afghanistan will face Hong Kong in the opening match of the tournament on September 9th in Abu Dhabi.

Noor Ahmed , Mujeeb Ur Rahman , A.M.Ghanazfar , Mohammad Nabi and captain Rashid Khan completes the spin heavy Afghanistan squad. Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Allan Ghazanfar returned to the squad after missing the Champions Trophy earlier this year.

Ibrahim Zadran return to the squad in place of Hazratullah Zazai. Darwish Rasooli , Sediqullah Atal , Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wicket-keeper) and Mohammad Ishaq (wicket-keeper) included in the squad.

Veteran all-rounder Mohammad Nabi , Azmatullah Omarzai , Karim Janat and Gulbadin Naib also picked for Asia Cup. The return of pacer Naveen -ul-Haq to the add more depth to their pace bowling. He last played for Afghanistan on December 2024.

Left arm pacer Fazalhar Farooqi and Farid Ahmad Malik are the other pace bowlers in the squad.

Afghanistan placed in Group B along with Bangladesh , Hong Kong and Srilanka. They last played T20I series was against Zimbabwe in December 2024 which they won by 2-1.
