Bowling allrounder Washington Sundar’s career best figures of 7 for 59 helped India bowled New Zealand out for 259 on day 1 of second test in Pune. India were 16/1 at the end of day’s play.

Elected to bat first New Zealand lost their captain Tom Latham for 15 to Ravichandran Ashwin when the team score reaches just 32. Ashwin strikes again in the first session dismissing Will Young for 18.

Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra took New Zealand to 92/2 at lunch. The duo added 62 runs for the third wicket before Ashwin got the big wicket of Devon Conway (76 runs from 141 balls) to broke the dangerous looking partnership.

Washington Sundar ripped through New Zealand middle and lower order with his seven wicket haul spell. Rachin Ravindra (65 runs from 105 balls) and Mitchell Santner (33 runs from 51 balls) took New Zealand to 259 in the end.

Pacer Tim Southee provided early breakthrough to New Zealand by dismissing India captain Rohit Sharma for a duck. Shubman Gill (10* runs from 32 balls) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (6* runs from 25 balls) were at the crease for India.
