
Rain played spoilsport after India set England a 190 run target, forcing the first T20I to end without any result. Batting first, India scored 189 for 7, but persistent rain stopped England’s innings from starting. The umpires called off the match as ground staff could not make the outfield ready for play in time.
Toss
India captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bat first, hoping to put a big score on board.
India Innings
Sanju Samson failed again with the bat as he got out for just one run, continuing his poor run of form. Pacer Saqib Mahmood gave England the first wicket in the second over of the match. A mix up with Abhishek Sharma in the same over saw Ishan Kishan run out without scoring a single run.

Abhishek Sharma and Shreyas Iyer added 82 runs from 38 balls for the third wicket to lift India strongly. Left handed opener Abhishek Sharma attacked the bowlers as usual and scored 59 runs from just 24 balls. In his knock, he hit 6 fours and 4 sixes before getting out to Sam Curran.

Shreyas Iyer scored his first half century as India captain and anchored the Indian innings. He scored 68 runs from 47 balls before Saqib Mahmood dismissed him lbw in front of the stumps. Shivam Dube’s unbeaten 42 runs from 21 balls helped India finish on 189 for 7 with a strong late batting effort.
Wicket Takers England
Saqib Mahmood was England best bowler, taking three wickets for 33 runs from his four overs with an impressive spell. He dismissed Sanju Samson, Shreyas Iyer and Tilak Varma.
Sam Curran (1/25 in 3 overs) and Adil Rashid (1/39 in 4 overs) are the other wicket takers for England.

Heavy rain forced the match to be abandoned before England could start their innings, ending the first T20I without a result.
