Mumbai edge Punjab in final over, hand fifth straight defeat

Punjab Kings suffered their fifth straight defeat after a six wicket loss against Mumbai Indians in a tense encounter. After batting first, Punjab Kings set a 201 run target before Mumbai Indians chased it down in 19.4 overs successfully. Tilak Varma earned Player of the Match award for his unbeaten 75 runs from just 33 balls.

Toss

For the first time in thirteen years, Jasprit Bumrah captained Mumbai Indians and elected to bowl after winning the toss.

Punjab Kings Innings

Once again, Punjab Kings openers provided a flying start by adding 50 runs in 5.3 overs. Pacer Deepak Chahar provided Mumbai Indians first breakthrough by dismissing Priyansh Arya for 22 off 17. Prabhsimran Singh continued his impressive form with another knock of 57 runs from 32 deliveries.

Shardul Thakur triggered Punjab Kings collapse by claiming the crucial wicket of Prabhsimran Singh. From 107 for one at one stage, Punjab Kings dramatically collapsed and slipped to 166 for 8. Azmatullah Omarzai played a valuable cameo scoring 38 runs from just 17 balls.

Impact player Vishnu Vinod scored 15* from 8 balls while Xavier Bartlett added 18* from seven balls at the end. Together, they added 34 runs from 12 balls to propel Punjab Kings to 200 in 20 overs.

Ryan Rickelton provided Mumbai Indians the ideal start with his 48 runs from 23 deliveries. Alongside Rohit Sharma, he added 61 runs before Azmatullah Omarzai dismissed him. Then Marco Jansen dismissed Naman Dhir(9) before Yuzvendra Chahal removed struggling Rohit Sharma for 25 from 26 balls.

Tilak Varma and Sherfane Rutherford stitched together a crucial 61 run partnership from 42 balls for the fourth wicket. Sherfane Rutherford innings ended after Azmatullah Omarzai dismissed him for 20 runs from 21 balls. Tilak Varma played a brilliant innings alongside Will Jacks to guide Mumbai Indians home.

For the fifth wicket, they added an unbeaten 56 runs from just 20 balls to seal Mumbai victory. Tilak Varma smashed unbeaten 75 from 33 balls while Will Jacks remained not out on 25 from 10 balls.
