South Africa beat India by 76 runs to end the 12 match winning streak in the T20 World Cups. It was a clinical performance by the Proteas with both bat and ball. Batted first, they set India a 188 run target and bowled them out for just 111 in 18.5 overs.

David Miller was named Player of the Match for his outstanding knock of 63 runs from just 35 balls. He smashed seven fours and three sixes in his match winning knock.

Aiden Markram, South Africa captain won the toss and elected to bat.

South Africa Innings

Pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh gave India a dream start, picking three wickets for just 20 runs in 4 overs. Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Quinton de Kock (6) and Ryan Rickelton (7), while Arshdeep Singh removed Aiden Markram for four runs.

David Miller and Dewald Brevis added 97 runs off 51 balls for the fourth wicket, bringing South Africa back. Shivam Dube finally broke the stand by dismissing Dewald Brevis for 45. David Miller (63 off 35) brought up another half century before Varun Chakravarthy eventually ended his innings.

Tristian Stubbs unbeaten 44 off 24 balls at the end lifted South Africa to 187 for 7 in their 20 overs.

Wicket Takers India

Jasprit Bumrah was India’s standout bowler, taking three wickets for just 15 runs in his four overs. Arshdeep Singh (2/28 in 4 overs) , Shivam Dube (1/32 in 2 overs) and Varun Chakravarthy (1/47 in 4 overs) are the other wicket takers for India.

India Innings

The opposition team’s tactic of starting with off-spin against India once again worked effectively. Aiden Markram struck early, dismissing in form Ishan Kishan for a duck in the first over of the chase. Marco Jansen pushed India further back by dismissing Tilak Varma for one in the second over.

Abhishek Sharma, who had three consecutive ducks finally opened his account with a boundary this time. However, his innings didn’t last long as he was dismissed by Marco Jansen for 15.

South African bowlers kept constant pressure on Indian batters with regular wickets and India were never in the chase. India were finally bowled out for 111 in 18.5 overs.

Shivam Dube was the top scorer for India with 42 runs off 37 balls.

Wicket Takers South Africa

Marco Jansen was the pick of South Africa’s bowlers, taking four wickets for 22 runs in 3.5 overs. Keshav Maharaj (3/24 in 3 overs) , Corbin Bosch (2/12 in 3 overs) and Aiden Markram (1/5 in 1 over) are the other wicket takers for Proteas.
