In the second T20I at Visakhapatnam, India women beat Srilanka by seven wickets to take a 2-0 series lead. After restricting Srilanka to 128 for nine in twenty overs, India chased the target down in 12th over.

The bowlers and opener Shafali Verma’s unbeaten 69 off 34 balls made India’s chase easy. Shafali named Player of the Match.

Toss

Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and put Srilanka in to bat.

Srilanka Innings

Pacer Kranti Goud dealt Srilanka an early blow in the first over by dismissing Vishmi Gunaratne cheaply. Captain Chamari Athapaththu then gave Srilanka the momentum they needed with a valuable 31 runs off 24 balls.

Spinner Sneh Rana provided India a crucial breakthrough by dismissing Chamari Athapaththu in the final over of the powerplay. Hasini Perera scored 22 while Harshitha Samarawickrama made 33 as they carried Srilanka forward with a 44 run stand. But Srilanka lost all momentum after the dismissal of both set batters and struggled to rebuild their innings.

In the last five overs Srilanka managed only thirty three runs while losing six wickets.

India Innings

Chasing 129 India’s openers added 29 runs before Dilhari dismissed Smriti Mandhana for 14 during the powerplay phase. The second wicket partnership between Jemimah Rodrigues and Shafali Verma added 58 runs off 28 balls, putting India ahead comfortably.

Shafali Verma continued attacking the Srilankan bowlers even after Jemimah Rodrigues fell for 26, keeping India dominant throughout. After Harmanpreet fell on 10 with a run required Richa Ghosh arrived and sealed victory off her first ball.

Opener Shafali Verma remained unbeaten on 69 from 34 balls, smashing 11 fours and one six.
