The semi final line up for Women’s World Cup was confirmed after India’s convincing win over New Zealand and Australia’s dominant victory against South Africa.

India’s triumph secured their spot in last four, Australia’s success ensured they topped the group.

Top four spot confirmed even as matches between New Zealand and England, and India and Bangladesh were still to complete.

Australia’s campaign

Team to beat in this Women’s World Cup is Australia. They have displayed remarkable consistency, winning six out of their seven league matches, with the only exception being a no result due to rain.

Their all-round strength, depth in batting and disciplined bowling have made them the most dominant side in the tournament and strong favourites heading in to the semi finals.

South Africa’s campaign

It was a nightmare start for South Africa in this Women’s World Cup as they suffered a crushing 10 wicket defeat against England.

Their batting lineup collapsed under pressure, posting a below par total of just 69. England chased it down with ease without losing a wicket.

They made a remarkable turnaround after their disastrous start to the tournament. The Proteas defeated New Zealand, India, Bangladesh, Srilanka and Pakistan to enter into semis.

In their final group stage match, South Africa faced a setback as they were comprehensively beaten by Australia.The Australian bowlers dominated the match, bowling South Africa out for just 97 runs. In reply, Australia made light work of the chase, reaching the target in 17th over with 7 wickets remaining.

England’s campaign

Won four out of the six matches played in the tournament so far. They lost one match against Australia and one no result due to rain.

Their performance heave kept them in semi final with one league match still to be played against New Zealand.

India’s campaign

For team India it has been a mixed campaign. The team showed flashes of brilliance but struggled with consistency, winning 3 matches and losing three.

While their victories kept them in race for semi finals, the defeats exposed areas of concern in both batting and bowling departments.

Final group stage match against Bangladesh is yet to be played, and they will be eager to finish on a high before heading into knockout stage.
