Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli produced a brilliant unbroken partnership of 168 runs to guide India to a nine wicket win over Australia in the final ODI at Sydney. The experienced duo chased down the target with ease, showcasing their class and composure to hand India a consolation victory and end the series on a high.

Australia won the toss and elected to bat first.

Australia Innings

Travis Head (29 runs off 25 balls) and Mitchell Marsh (41 runs off 50 balls) gave Australia a solid start, adding valuable runs at the top of the order. Both added 61 runs for the opening wicket in 9.2 overs.

Mohammad Siraj provided India’s first breakthrough in the final over of the first powerplay, dismissing Travis Head for 29.

Mitchell Marsh was the second wicket to fall, dismissed by Axar Patel while batting confidently on 41. He looked well set at crease, but Axar’s accurate delivery went through his defence and clean bowled him.

Virat Kohli then produced a brilliant sharp catch to dismiss Matthew Short for 30, off the bowling of Washington Sundar. At that time Australia were 124/3.

Matt Renshaw (56 runs from 58 balls) and Alex Carrey (24 runs from 37 balls) then steadied the innings for Australia with a 59 run partnership off 67 balls. Australia lost their momentum after Harshit Rana broke the partnership by dismissing Alex Carrey for 24.

Indian bowlers then made a strong come back by picking wickets at regular intervals to bowled Australia out for 236 in 46.4 overs.

After a decent start in the chase given by India openers, pacer Hazlewood draws first blood by dismissing India captain Gill for 24. He edged one to keeper Alex Carey. Gill and Rohit added 69 runs for the first wicket.

Then SCG witnessed an outstanding unbroken partnership of 168 runs between Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for the second wicket. The experienced duo showcased their class and composure to guide India to a convincing victory.

Former captain, Rohit Sharma looked in complete control through out the innings and slammed his 33rd ODI hundred. He scored 121 runs from 125 balls.

Kohli(74* runs from 81 balls) hit another half century and become second highest run scorer in this format, going past Sangakkara(14,234). He only stands behind Sachin Tendulkar tally of 18,426.
