Tazmin Brits (101 runs from 89 balls) , Sune Luus (83 runs from 114 balls) and Nonkululeko Mlaba (4/40 in 10 overs) helps South Africa register their first win in ongoing Women’s World Cup 2025.

Batted first , New Zealand were bowled out for 231 runs. In reply, South Africa put up a solid batting performance, chasing down the target in just 40.5 overs with six wickets in hand. Tazmin Brits (101 runs from 89 balls) named Player of the Match for her outstanding performance.

New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first.

Kiwis got off to the worst possible start, losing opener Suzie Bates on the very first ball of the match. Marizanne Kapp struck early , trapping Bates plumb in front of the stumps to give South Africa a perfect start.
Georgia Plimmer (31 runs off 68 balls) and Amelia Kerr (23 runs off 42 balls) steadied the innings with a 44 run partnership off 77 balls. Their stand help New Zealand recover slightly after the early setback and provided much-needed momentum to the innings. Nadine de Klerk broke the partnership by dismissing Amelia Kerr.

Captain Sophie Devine (85 off 98 balls) and Brooke Halliday (45 off 37 balls) shifted the momentum in New Zealand’s favour with an aggressive partnership. The duo added 86 runs from just 75 balls , putting New Zealand on course for a strong total before South Africa struck back.

South Africa’s bowlers staged a strong comeback in the final stages of the innings, striking at regular intervals to derail New Zealand’s progress. Their disciplined effort saw New Zealand bowled out for 231, well short of what once looked like a bigger total.

Nonkululeko Mlaba was the pick of the South African bowlers, delivering a brillant spell. She claimed 4 wickets for just 40 runs in her 10 overs.
Chloe Tryon (1/24 in 3 overs) , Ayabonga Khaka (1/31 in 7.5 overs) , Nadine de Klerk (1/32 in 7 overs) and Marizanne Kapp (1/34 in 8 overs) are the other wicket takers for South Africa.

Chasing 232, South Africa lost their captain Laura Wolvaart early after she scored a quick 14 runs off 10 balls. Jess Kerr struck for New Zealand, trapping her leg before wicket to give New Zealand first breakthrough.
Opener Tazmin Brits (101 runs from 89 balls) and Sune Luus (83 runs from 124 balls) put South Africa in course of an easy win, sharing a crucial 159 run partnership off 170 balls. Tazmin Britts innings was ended by Lea Tahuhu, finally breaking the stand.
Allrounder Amelia Kerr then dismissed Marizanne Kapp for 14 and Anneke Bosch for a duck, but it was too late for the Kiwis, as South Africa was already closing in on victory.
