Phil Salt’s Record T20I Knock: England’s 304/2 Against South Africa

Phil Salt’s (141* runs from 60 balls) and Jos Buttler (83 runs from 30 balls) innings took England to their highest T20I score against South Africa at Manchester. England then bowled out South Africa for 158 runs and won the match by 146 runs.

With this huge win England level the three match series 1-1.

England score was third highest by any team in this format. Zimbabwe tops the list with 344/4 against Gambia in 2024 and Nepal’s 314/3 against Mongolia in 2023 are in the top two.

Toss

South Africa won the toss and elected to field.

England Innings

England openers Phil Salt and Jos Buttler given England off to flying start after put in to bat. In the powerplay England scored 100 runs without loosing any wickets. Both scored 126 runs in 7.4 overs before Fortuin dismissed Buttler for 83. He hit 8 fours and 7 sixes in his knock.

Phil Salt continued his blistering knock and scored highest and fastest T20I century by an English batter. In his unbeaten knock of 141 runs from 60 balls he hit 15 fours and 8 sixes. His innings took England to record breaking score of 304/2 in 20 overs.

Captain Harry Brook (41* runs from 21 balls) and Jacob Bethell (26 runs from 14 balls) also given useful contributions to the English side.

Wicket Taker – South Africa

Bjorn Fortuin (2/52 in 4 overs) is the only wicket taker for South Africa.

South Africa Innings

South Africa openers Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton started strongly in the chase by scoring 50 runs in 3.4 overs. Jofra Archer’s double wicket over dismissing Ryan Rickelton for 20 and Lhuan-dre-Pretorius for 2 brought England back in the game.

Sam Curran who made a comeback in to the England side dismissed Dewald Brevis for 4. Later leggie Adil Rashid dismissed Aiden Markram for 41 to push South Africa to 77/4. England bowlers kept things under control and picked wickets to bowled South Africa out for 158 in 16.1 overs.

For South Africa , Tristan Stubbs scored 23 runs from 25 balls , Donovan Ferreria scored 23 runs from 11 balls and Bjorn Fortuin who took 2 wickets shines with the bat by scoring 32 runs from 16 balls.

Jofra Archer (3/25 in 3 overs) , Will Jacks (2/2 in 1 over) , Sam Curran (2/11 in 2 overs) , Liam Dawson (2/34 in 3.1 overs) and Adil Rashid (1/48 in 4 overs) are the wicket takers for England.
