Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is going to held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on September 28th to elect its office bearers.

The formation of Apex council of the BCCI and the Governing council of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Women’s Premier League (WPL) are in the agenda of the meeting.

As per the communication from secretary Devajit Saikia the elections will be held for the posts of President , Vice-President , Secretary , Joint Secretary and Treasurer.

BCCI President post has been vacant since former India cricketer Roger Binny steped down after reaching the age of 70. The IPL chairman Arun Dhumal is expected to take a mandatory cooling-off period after serving a total of six years in service.

Devajit Saikia , who elected as Secretary after Jay Shah became the chairman of International Cricket Council (ICC). He completed three years in BCCI administration , two years and three months as joint secretary and nine months as secretary.

Rohan Gauns Desai , elected joint secretary in March and Prabhtej Bhatia , who become treasurer in January like to continue in their respective positions.

The main agenda of the Annual General Meeting is to form a new set of office-bearers who will run Indian cricket for at least next three years or until forthcoming Sports Bill supersedes the current situation.

It is not clear whether the BCCI will hold elections once the Sports Bill comes into effect in 6 months , but at present , the board has decided to follow the Supreme Court-approved and Lodha Committee – recommended situation.

“So far as the BCCI’s view is concerned , we have to follow whatever the central government formalises. Recently , our policy – regarding India’s participation in any multinational or international tournament – clearly states that there are no restrictions imposed by the central government on playing against countries not on friendly terms with India. So, India has to play all matches in any multinational tournament,” Saikia said as per ANI.

“As the Asia Cup is a multinational tournament involving countries from the Asian continent, we have to participate. Similarly , in any ICC tournament , even if it involves a country not on good terms with India , we are required to play. As far as bilateral ties are concerned , we are not going to play against any hostile nation,” he added.
