Karun Nair (52* runs from 98 balls) half century on challenging conditions helps India survive on Day 1 of fifth test against England. At the end of the day India were 204/6 on rain hit day.
Toss and Team Changes
England stand in captain Ollie Pope won the toss and put India in to bat. Team India made four changes from their previous test. Dhruv Jurel , Karun Nair , Prasidh Krishna and Akash Deep comes in place of Rishabh Pant , Shardul Thakur , Jasprit Bumbrah and Anshul Kamboj.

English side also made four changes in their playing XI. Jamie Overton , Gus Atkinson , Josh Tongue and Jacob Bethell comes in place of Jofra Archer , Brydon Carse , Liam Dawson and Ben Stokes.
First Session
Team India lost their left hander opener Yashasvi Jaiswal (2 runs from 9 balls) cheaply. He was trapped infront of the stumps by pacer Gus Atkinson. Later , Chris Woakes clean bowled K.L.Rahul (14 runs from 40 balls) after adding 28 runs for the second wicket with Sai Sudharsan.
Rain forces to take early lunch when India reaches 72/2 in 23 overs. Sai Sudharsan on 25* and Shubman Gill 15* were at the crease at that time.
Rain spoils second session
Due to rain only 6 overs played in second session of play and India lost their captain Shubman Gill (21 runs from 35 balls). India captain’s suicidal run out pushed India to 85/3 at Tea.
Karun Nair’s gutsy fifty
Pacer Josh Tongue bowled an unplayable delivery to get rid of set Sai Sudharsan (38 runs from 108 balls). He hit 6 boundaries in his knock before he edged one to keeper Jamie Smith. Tongue then bowled similar kind of delivery to dismiss inform Ravindra Jadeja when he was batting on 9.
Wicket keeper batter Dhruv Jurel who replaces Rishabh Pant in the playing XI scores 19 runs from 40 balls and added 30 runs with Karun Nair for the sixth wicket before he was caught in slip by Harry Brook for 19 off Gus Attkinson. India were 153/6 when Jurel departs.
Karun Nair’s unbeaten 52* runs from 98 balls was the highlight of Indian innings on day 1. His first 50 plus score after triple century in Chennai helps India survive on day 1. Washington Sundar (19* runs from 45 balls) remains unbeaten with Karun Nair.
Karun Nair and Washington Sundar so far added 51 runs from 88 balls for the seventh wicket.
