Left arm spinner Liam Dawson recalled to England squad for the fourth test against India after 8 years. He last played a test match for England in July 2017 against England. He replaces Shoaib Bashir who injured his finger during the third test at Lords.

England made no other changes in their test squad against India.

35 year old Dawson played 3 tests for England so far and picked 7 wickets with best bowling figures of 2/34. He also scored 84 runs in 6 innings with highest score of 66 not out. He played 6 ODIs and 14 T20Is also for England.

“Liam Dawson deserves his call-up. He has been in outstanding form in the county championship and consistently puts in strong performance for Hampshire,” national selector Luke Wright said in an ECB statement.

In the last two years he performed consistently well for Hampshire which earned him PCA player of the year award in 2024. He dominates domestic circuits with 1280 runs and 71 wickets.

He recently included in T20I squad nearly after 3 years against West Indies and played 3 matches in the series. His best bowling performance of 4 for 20 runs in International matches came in that series.

Essex’s Sam Cook and Jamie Overton of Surrey, who were both in the squad for the third test, have been released to their respective counties to play in County Championship.

England currently leads the 5 match test series 2-1 after thrilling 22 run win at Lords.

England Squad:- Ben Stokes (c) , Jofra Archer , Gus Atkinson , Jacob Bethell , Harry Brook , Brydon Carse , Zak Crawley , Liam Dawson , Ben Duckett , Ollie Pope , Joe Root , Jamie Smith , Josh Tongue , Chris Woakes.

Fourth test of the series will be played at Manchester from 23rd July to 27th July.
