India taken huge 180 run first innings lead despite Jamie Smith (184* runs from 207 balls) and Harry Brook (158 runs from 234 balls) mammoth partnership of 303 runs for the sixth were. India were 64/1 in second innings and ahead by 244 runs at end of day 3.

England lost key wickets of Joe Root (22 runs from 46 balls) and their captain Ben Stokes for first ball duck early in first session of play. Both batters fell to Mohammad Siraj in consecutive deliveries.

Jamie Smith’s 184 was the highest by an England wicket keeper in test matches. He surpasses Alec Stewart’s 173 against New Zealand in 1997. It is also their highest score at No.7 position.

Pacer Akash Deep broke the partnership by dismissing Harry Brook for 158. England then lost their remaining wickets for just 20 runs and bowled out for 407 in reply to India’s first innings score of 587.

Six England batters got out for duck which is the most for an England in an innings. Ben Duckett , Ollie Pope , Ben Stokes , Brydon Carse , Josh Tongue , Shoaib Bashir are the batters got out for without scoring.

Pacer Mohammed Siraj was the pick of the bowlers for India in absence of Jasprit Bumrah. He picked 6 wickets for 70 runs in his 19.3 overs. Akash Deep picked 4 wickets for 88 runs.

Yasjasvi Jaiswal (28 runs from 22 balls) and K.L.Rahul (28* runs from 38 balls) given India off to brisk start by scoring 51 runs in 7.4 overs before Josh Tongue trapped Jaiswal in front off the stumps. Karun Nair (7* runs from 18 balls) remains unbeaten along with K.L.Rahul.
