Former India captain and wicket keeper batter M.S.Dhoni has been inducted into ICC Hall of Fame during a ceremony in London. He becomes the 11th Indian cricketer receive this Honor. Dhoni last played of India in 2019 ODI semifinal match against New Zealand at Manchester.

He is the only captain to lead a team to win all three ICC white ball tournaments – ICC T20 World Cup (2007) , ICC ODI World Cup (2011) and Champions trophy (2013).

In his stellar career , Dhoni played 90 tests , 350 ODIs and 98 T20Is and scored 4876 , 10,773 and 1617 runs respectively. He averages 50.57 in ODIs , 38.09 in Tests and 37.60 (T20Is). He was involved in 829(634 catches & 195 stumping) dismissals in International career.

Dhoni is famous for his calm and composed nature on the field which earned him the nick name “Captain Cool”. He is also known for his outstanding leadership qualities , strategic decision making , exceptional wicket keeping abilities and master in finishing white ball cricket.

“It is an honour to be named in ICC Hall of Fame, which recognises the contribution of cricketers across generations and from all over the world. To have your name remembered alongside such all-time greats is a wonderful feeling. It is something I will cherish forever,” M.S.Dhoni said.

“M.S.Dhoni’s early performances had already marked him out as a player of composure and clarity. It was enough for selectors to take a bold call and hand him the captaincy for the inaugural ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2007,” the ICC said in a release.

At the event, former India coach Ravi Shastri paid tribute , humorously calling Dhoni “faster than a pickpocket” in reference to his lightning-quick wicket keeping.

Alongside Dhoni, other legendary names included in ICC Hall of Fame this year includes

• Daniel Vettori (Newzealand)
• Hashim Amla (South Africa)
• Graeme Smith (South Africa)
• Sarah Taylor (England, Women)
• Sana Mir (Pakistan , Women)

Sana Mir become the first women cricketer from Pakistan to be a Hall of Fame inductee. She played 120 WODIs and 106 WT20Is for Pakistan and picked 151 and 89 wickets respectively. She also scored 1630 ODI and 802 T20 runs for her country.

“From dreaming as a little girl that one day there would even be a women’s team in our country to now standing here, inducted among the very legends I idolised long before I ever held a bat or a ball – this is a moment I couldn’t have dared to imagine. I am incredibly grateful for this honor and hope to give back to the sport in any way I can,” Sana Mir said.
