India all-rounder Shardul Thakur who went unsold in auction is all set to join Lucknow Super Giants in place of injured Mohsin Khan for IPL 2025. Mohsin Khan suffered an ACL tear and last featured in a competitive cricket in December 2024.
Mohsin Khan faced a career threatening shoulder injury after IPL 2022 but recovered full and played the entire 2024 season. He is currently doing rehab and will work with LSG support staff to make his way back.

“The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have named Shardul Thakur as a replacement for left arm pace bowler Mohsin Khan, who has been ruled out of the 18th season of TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) due to injury,” IPL said in a statement.
“Thakur, an experienced all-rounder , has been signed from the Registered Available Player Pool (RAPP) at his reserve price of INR 2 crore.
“A proven performer across all three formats for India, he brings valuable IPL experience, having played 95 matches for five franchises,” Shardul Thakur is ”Currently with LSG squad in Vishakhapatanam” , according to an espncricinfo report.
He played for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) , Delhi Capitals (DC) , Kings XI Punjab (PBKS) , Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rising Pune Super Giants. Thakur played 95 IPL matches picked 94 wickets at an average of 30.52 with best bowling figures of 4/36. He also scored 307 runs with strike rate of 138.92 with highest score of 68.

Essex signed as an overseas player to play the county season 2025-26 all of which are set to be played in April and May 2025. It is understood that Thakur had already alerted Essex that he would take up the offer if any IPL franchise needed a replacement player.
Essex confirmed on Sunday that Thakur is no longer joining them.
Thakur recently had a successful domestic season with Mumbai. He is Mumbai’s highest run getter, scoring 396 runs in nine innings at an average of 44.00 , including a century and three fifties.
