Gill likely to play Ranji Trophy for Punjab this season (Image Credit:- X)

India batter Shubman Gill made himself available for Punjab’s next Ranji Trophy match which is scheduled to begin from January 23^rd. Punjab yet to announce their squad.

Gill , who last played a Ranji Trophy match was way back in 2022. He didn’t have a great tour of Australia in recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He scored only 93 runs from 3 tests at an average of 18.60.

In 18 innings outside Asia since 2021 , he scored only 300 runs at an average of 17.64. Playing for Punjab will give him the opportunity to work with Wasim Jaffer , who is Punjab coach now and also the highest run getter in Ranji Trophy history.

Recently India head coach Gautam Gambhir had spoken about the need for senior players to play Ranji Trophy matches.

“I would always like everyone to play domestic cricket. That is how much importance domestic cricket needs to be given. Not only one game. If they are available and they have the commitment to play red-ball cricket , everyone should play domestic cricket. As simple as it can get ,” Gambhir said.
