Rohit Sharma to miss first test in Perth , Bumrah to lead India

India captain Rohit Sharma will miss the first test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Perth. He informed BCCI that he needed more time with his wife after the birth of their second child.

Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah will lead the side in first test in absence of Rohit Sharma who will be back to play the second test , a pink ball Test , that begins in Adelaide on December 6.

Bumrah lead India once in one off test match against England in Edgbaston which India lost by 7 wickets. India unable to defend 378 in the fourth innings.

India will begin their crucial series to qualify for the World Test Championship final without Rohit Sharma and injured Shubman Gill.

India’s top order can be vulnerable without Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. Devdutt Padikkal who was with India A squad in Australia will stay back with the Test squad.

“We were hoping that he (Rohit) will travel but he has informed the BCCI that he can’t go now as he need some more time. He will be flying to Australia for the pink-ball Test match , the second match in Adelaide. There is a 9 day gap between the first and second test matches, so Rohit will be able to be there on time,” BCCI offical said.
