BCCI decided to remove impact player rule in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy , India’s domestic T20 competition which is scheduled to begin from November 23. However , the impact player rule will continue in next IPL season also.

After being implemented in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy two years ago the rule was also implemented in IPL. The basic concept of impact player rule is to allow one substitute player per team to play an active part in matches with bat or ball.

The impact player rule forced teams to select specialist batters and bowlers which undermines crucial role of all-rounders in T20 cricket.

“Kindly note that the BCCI has decided to do away with the provision of the ‘Impact Player’ for the ongoing season,” BCCI wrote to the state units.

The BCCI decided to continue with two bouncers per over rule in SMAT and IPL. In International cricket ICC allows only one bouncer per over. For fast bowlers , two bouncers rule in the IPL has emerged as a powerful tool to beat batsmen in a format which favours them.
