Pakistan skipper Babar Azam resigns as Pakistan captain for ODIs and T20Is on Wednesday (October 2). His second resignation came after Pakistan’s poor T20 World Cup campaign this year.

Babar Azam took social media to announce his resignation , adding that he had informed Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the team management of his decision in September.

Babar Azam said he took the decision to manage his workload and focus more on contributing to the team with the bat.

Earlier Babar Azam stepped down as Pakistan captain in November 2023 and Pakistan Cricket Board reappointed him as captain in ODI and T20I on March 31.

“I am sharing some news with you today. I have decided to resign as captain of Pakistan’s men’s cricket team, effective as of my notification to the PCB and Team Management last month.

“It’s been a honour to lead this team , but it’s time for me to step down and focus on my playing role. Captaincy has been a rewarding experience , but it’s added a significant workload. I wanted to prioritize my performance, enjoy my batting and spend quality time with my family , which brings me joy.

“By stepping down , I will gain clarity moving forward and focus more energy on my game and personal growth. I am grateful for your unwavering support and belief in me. Your enthusiasm has meant the world to me.
