Hardik Pandya is set to miss the Afghanistan ODI series after suffering an injury setback. He suffered a leg strain this week while training at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, official confirmed. The three match ODI series against Afghanistan is set to begin in Dharamsala from June 13 onwards.

Scans confirmed a low grade quadriceps injury, with medical staff advising Hardik Pandya to take two to three weeks rest. Hardik Pandya now joins Virat Kohli on the injury list, leaving India without two key stars for the series.

While naming the squad, the Board of Control for Cricket in India clarified that Hardik and Rohit would be available only if they passed fitness assessments. Rohit Sharma successfully cleared his fitness test and will be available for selection.

The all-rounder has not played ODI cricket since March 2025, and his return has now delayed further. In the recently concluded IPL season, the all-rounder featured in only 10 of his team’s 14 matches. He endured a difficult IPL season, scoring just 206 runs and claiming only four wickets in 10 matches.

“He is a part of the one day squad right now for the Afghanistan series. Like Jasprit Bumrah, if we can get him playing well and keep him fit for one day cricket – he hasn’t played much ODI cricket for a while- that is the main objective. We can always bring him back. So there will be a little bit of rest and rotation with regard to T20 cricket in Pandya’s case,” chairman of selectors Ajith Agarkar said.
