Daryl Mitchell’s 131* outclasses K.L.Rahul’s 112* as Kiwis level series 1-1

Mitchell’s outstanding 131* off 117 balls helped the Kiwis beat India by seven wickets to level the series 1-1. New Zealand chased down India’s 285 run target in the 48th over, finishing with seven wickets in hand.

For his match winning knock, Mitchell was named Player of the Match.

Toss

New Zealand won the toss and opted to field first.

India Innings

Openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill gave India a good start with a 70 run opening stand. Kristian Clarke provided the first breakthrough for the Kiwis as Rohit Sharma mistimed a shot to deep point. Rohit Sharma scored 24 runs from 38 balls.

Captain Gill, who regained his form, hit his second half century of the series before falling to a soft dismissal. Jamieson’s short pitch delivery was hit straight to Daryl Mitchell, ending the batter’s innings on 56.

Kristian Clarke then gave Kiwis a double breakthrough in quick succession by dismissing Shreyas Iyer (8) and Virat Kohli (23). India were pushed to 118/4 and found themselves in a spot of bother.

K.L.Rahul’s eight ODI century rescued India from further collapse. He scored an unbeaten 112 off 92 balls, including 11 fours and a six. Ravindra Jadeja (27 off 44) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (20 off 21) provided vital support to Rahul as India reached 284/7.

New Zealand Wicket Takers

Kristian Clarke (3/56 in 8 overs) , Micheal Bracewell (1/34 in 10 overs) , Jayden Lennox (1/42 in 10 overs) , Zak Foulkes (1/67 in 9 overs) and Kyle Jamieson (1/70 in 10 overs).

New Zealand Innings

Chasing 285, India pushed New Zealand back by dismissing both openers. Harshit Rana dismissed Conway for 16, while Prasidh Krishna got Henry Nicholls out for 10.

Daryl Mitchell and Will Young’s 162 run partnership off 152 balls for the third wicket put New Zealand firmly in control. Kuldeep Yadhav given India some hope by dismissing Will young. He scored 87 runs from 98 balls including 7 boundaries.

Glenn Philips(32) , along with Daryl Mitchell, finished the game in the 48th over, helping New Zealand level the series 1-1. Daryl Mitchell’s eighth ODI century outshone K.L.Rahul’s eight ODI ton to give Kiwis win.
