Australia seals ODI series win over India with one match remaining

Australia edged past India by 2 wickets in a thrilling match to clinch 3 match ODI series 2-0, with one game still to play. Earlier, India posted 264 runs after being put in to bat. Australia held their nerve to cross the line with 22 balls to spare.

Toss

After winning the toss Australia put India into bat.

India Innings

Indian innings got off to a shaky start as captain Shubman Gill fell early for just 9 runs. The pressure mounted when Virat Kohli dismissed for his second consecutive duck, leaving the hosts reeling. In initial stages Rohit Sharma struggled to find his rhythm.

Despite the early blows , Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer steadied the Indian innings with a determined 118 run partnership for the third wicket.

The much-needed breakthrough for Australia came when Mitchell Starc dismissed Rohit Sharma for well made 73 , ending crucial stand.

Shreyas Iyer, on the other hand looked in fine touch as he crafted a well made 61, anchoring the innings. However, just as he looked set for a bigger score, Adam Zampa broke through.

They quickly put India under pressure by picking wickets at regular intervals. Axar Patel’s (44 runs from 41 balls) innings and ninth wicket partnership between Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh took India to 264/9 in 50 overs.

Harshit Rana (24* runs from 18 balls) and Arshdeep Singh(13 runs from 14 balls) put together 37 runs from 29 balls.

Wicket Takers Australia

Adam Zampa was the pick of the Australian bowlers. He picked 4 wickets for 60 runs in his 10 overs.

Xavier Bartlett (3/39 in 10 overs) and Mitchell Starc (2/62 in 10 overs) are the other wicket Takers for Australia.

Australia Innings

Chasing 265 for victory, Australia made a cautious start but suffered an early setback when captain Mitchell Marsh was dismissed for just 11 , with score at 30 in 7.2 overs. Left arm pacer Arshdeep Singh provided the breakthrough.

India struck again soon after, as Harshit Rana provided the breakthrough by dismissing dangerous Travis Head for 28. He looked in good touch before got out.

Matthew Short who scored 74 runs from 78 balls put Australia in a position of strength. He was lucky that Indian fielders dropped two straight forward catches of him.

Cooper Connolly (61 runs from 53 balls) innings under pressure helped Australia to cross the line in a tense finish. He hit 5 fours and 1 six in his innings.

Mitchell Owen (36 runs from 23 balls) and Matthew Renshaw (30 runs from 30 balls) also given useful contributions.

Washington Sundar (2/37 in 7 overs) , Arshdeep Singh (2/41 in 8.2 overs) , Harshit Rana (2/59 in 8 overs) , Mohammed Siraj (1/49 in 10 overs) and Axar Patel (1/52 in 10 overs) are the wicket Takers for India.
