India vs Australia to kick off World Cup 2027, India vs Pakistan on October 10

Defending champions Australia and 2023 runners up India will kick off 2027 ODI World Cup. Arch-rivals India and Pakistan are in the same group and will face each other on October 10 in Johannesburg. The final of the 14th edition of the tournament will also be played in Johannesburg.

The first semi final will take place in Cape Town on November 17, while the second will be held in Tshwane on November 18. Both semi finals and the final will have reserve day to ensure matches are completed if any interruption happens during play.

12 team tournament will be divided into two groups, with six teams placed in each group for the league stage. Ten teams have already confirmed their places, while the remaining two will be decided by the qualifiers. Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek will host a three team preliminary round, deciding which two teams earn place in the 12 team main event.

India , Australia , Pakistan , Afghanistan , Zimbabwe and one qualifier are placed in Group A. New Zealand , South Africa , Srilanka , England , Bangladesh and another qualifier are placed in Group B. India vs Zimbabwe at the new Mosi-oa-Tunya stadium will be the final group stage match of the tournament.

Co-hosts South Africa will begin their campaign against New Zealand on October 9 in their opening World Cup match. Zimbabwe, Co-hosts will face Afghanistan in Bulawayo in their first match of the tournament.

Top three teams from each group will move into the Super seven stage. The seventh spot will go to the team finishing fourth with the better record between the two groups. ICC has already set seven seeded positions for the Super Seven stage.

If a seeded team fails to qualify for the next stage, the qualifying team will take its seeded position in the Super Seven. There is also a chance of a second India vs Pakistan match in Cape Town on November 7.

A total of 57 matches will be played across the Super series, group stage, Super Seven phase and Knock out rounds. The tournament features 12 venues, with eight in South Africa, three in Zimbabwe and one in Namibia.
