BCCI has confirmed that Goa will host this year’s IPL auction which is scheduled to take place in December.The event will take place in the second week of December and will be the final mini auction of the 2023-27 cycle. Secretary Devajith Saikia confirmed the news on Wednesday.

The auction took place in Dubai, Jeddah and Abu Dhabi during the past three years. This time the BCCI decided to hold auction in India after requests from most IPL franchises. Auction is tentatively scheduled between December 14 and 16. Mega auction is set for next year and the event could possibly return to an overseas venue once again.

“This year, after hosting the IPL auction in three foreign locations – Saudi Arabia , Dubai and Abu Dhabi last year – we are going to host it in Goa in the month of December,” Saikia told.

Goa hosted the IPL auction for the second season in 2009.

Official dates for the start of IPL 2027 have not been confirmed yet. After last week’s BCCI AGM, Saikia told the media that the IPL 2027 season would begin by end of March 2027. Some teams have already made player movement ahead of the next season.

Recently, Zaheer Khan was named Chennai Super Kings head coach replacing Stephen Fleming. Mumbai Indians have appointed Zubin Bharucha as their director of performance. Rishabh Pant returned to Delhi Capitals while Kuldeep Yadhav moved from Delhi Capitals to Lucknow Super Giants.

IPL has not announced the retention deadline which is usually scheduled towards the end of November. Women Premier League auction will take place in Kochi on October 28.

Impact player rule is expected to continue in IPL 2027 staying active until the current broadcast deal ends. Each franchise can retain up to six players before the auction with a base purse of 120 crore.
