India captain Shubman Gill suffered a blow to his right elbow while batting in the nets before the first ODI. The injury happened during practice ahead of India’s opening match against West Indies in the ODI series. The first ODI will be played on September 27 at Greenfield International stadium in Thiruvanthapuram.

Mohammed Siraj delivery struck Gill, leaving him in pain as he immediately walked away from the nets. He did not return to bat again after the blow during the practice session. He has one full day to recover from the blow before the opening ODI.

Gill walked out of nets with the team physio after suffering the blow. The physio checked his elbow and applied an Ice pack to help reduce pain and swelling. Mohammed Siraj and Virat Kohli immediately went across to see how Gill was feeling after the painful blow.

Recently, India have faced many injury concerns which have stopped them from fielding their strongest playing eleven. Nitish Kumar Reddy , Jasprit Bumrah , Hardik Pandya , Harshit Rana and Washington Sundar are among the players who suffered injury. While Bumrah and Reddy have returned to action.

“Obviously, you want to have your strongest and condition wise the best XI on the field. Sadly, it’s part of the game that the guys got injured at times when we didn’t really want them to fall injured. But luckily, We’ve got fantastic back up in the wings and it’s a great opportunity for the guys to go and play a game for India, to make a name for themselves and to compete.

“But ideally, hopefully we can get all injuries out of the way and later down the year we’ll be fine and we can take it on from there,” India bowling coach Morne Morkel said.
