Mumbai Indians ended their streak of losing first matches for 13 seasons with a record chase against Kolkata Knight Riders. Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton smashed fifties as they chased down 221 in 19.1 overs, winning by six wickets. Shardul Thakur was named Player of the Match for his impressive spell of 3/39 in 4 overs.

Ajinkya Rahane and Finn Allen gave Kolkata Knight Riders a flying start with a 69 run opening partnership. Finn Allen smashed 37 off 17 balls with six fours and two sixes before Shardul Thakur dismissed him. Ajinkya Rahane and Cameron Green added 40 for second wicket before Shardul Thakur struck again, dismissing Green.

Captain Ajinkya Rahane played a superb knock scoring 67 off 40 balls, smashing three fours and five sixes. Man with golden arm Shardul Thakur delivered again, removing KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane to provide crucial third breakthrough.

Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Rinku Singh played crucial knocks, guiding Kolkata Knight Riders to a strong total of 220. Raghuvanshi scored 51 off 29 balls, while Rinku Singh made an unbeaten 33 off 21 balls. Both added a quickfire 60 run partnership off just 30 balls for the fourth wicket.

Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton powered Mumbai Indians with a 148 run opening stand in 11.5 overs chasing 221. Rohit Sharma belted 78 off 38 balls with six fours and six sixes before Vaibhav Arora dismissed him. He became only the fourth player in IPL history to register 50 scores of fifty or more. Virat Kohli (72) , David Warner (66) and Shikhar Dhawan (53) achieved the milestone before Rohit Sharma.

Suryakumar Yadhav came as impact player scored 16 off 8 before Kartik Tyagi got rid of him. Ryan Rickelton scored 81 off 43 before Anukul Roy direct throw caused a bizarre run out. Tilak Varma (20 off 14) and Hardik Pandya (18* off 11) also contributed in the successful run chase.
