Gujarat Titans reach IPL final as Gill smashes match winning 104 against Rajasthan

Shubman Gill’s 104 outshone Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s 96 as Gujarat Titans defeated Rajasthan Royals to reach the IPL final. Batting first, Rajasthan Royals set a 215 run target, but Gujarat Titans chased it down in 18.4 overs with seven wickets remaining. Gill earned Player of the Match honours after smashing a brilliant 104 runs from just 53 balls.

After winning the toss, Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag elected to bat first.

RR endured a poor start, losing two inform batters within the first two overs of the innings.Mohammed Siraj dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal for one, while Kagiso Rabada removed Dhruv Jurel for seven. Ravindra Jadeja and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi rebuilt the innings with a 73 run partnership from 37 balls before Jadeja retired hurt.

Gujarat bowlers quickly tightened their grip, dismissing Riyan Parag (11) , Dasun Shanaka (3) and Jofra Archer (7) to leave RR at 118/5. Jadeja returned to bat and added another valuable 54 runs from 28 balls alongside Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi continued his red hot form this season, smashing another brilliant 96 runs from just 47 balls. He struck 8 fours and 7 sixes during his innings before Kagiso Rabada dismissed him. He became the fastest batter to reach 1000 IPL runs in 440 balls, breaking Andre Russell’s previous record of 545.

Donovan Ferreira’s unbeaten 38 off just 11 balls provided late impetus, helping Rajasthan Royals reach 214/6. Jadeja remained unbeaten on 45 runs from 35 balls.

Openers Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill took the game away from Rajasthan with a 167 run stand in 12.5 overs. In the second consecutive innings, he was dismissed hit wicket, falling an unusual and unfortunate manner again. He lost his grip, and the bat slipped from his hand, hitting the stumps. He scored 58 runs from 32 balls, including 8 fours and one six.

Gill played a crucial knock in the qualifier 2, hitting another IPL century during a successful chase for Gujarat Titans. He scored 104 runs from 53 balls, including 15 fours and 3 sixes, before Archer trapped him in front. Washington Sundar made 16 off 9, Buttler 9* off 9 and Rahul Tewatia 17* off 9 remains unbeaten.

With this win Gujarat Titans reached the final and will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the title clash.
