Dominant India outplayed South Africa by 101 runs in the series opener, securing an impressive win to lead 1-0. Put into bat, India set South Africa a 176 run target and bowled them out for 74 in 12.3 overs.

Hardik Pandya’s impressive performance with both bat and ball earned him the well-deserved player of the match award. He scored 59 runs from 28 balls and also claimed one wicket for sixteen runs in his two overs.

Toss

South Africa won the toss and opted to bowl first, expecting the dew factor to assist their chase later.

India Innings

Aiming to set a total, India lost opener Shubman Gill for four in the first over, dismissed by Ngidi. In his next over, Ngidi removed India captain Suryakumar for twelve after being hit for a six and four.

In the first over after the powerplay, India lost another key wicket when Abhishek Sharma was dismissed for 17. Marco Jansen took a brillant catch to dismiss him off the bowling of Lutho Sipala.

Hardik played a match defining innings for India

India then lost the wickets of Tilak Verma, who scored twenty six from thirty two balls and Axar Patel, contributing twenty three. Hardik Pandya’s explosive 59 off 28 balls helped India reach a competitive 175 by the end of the innings. He hit six fours and four sixes in his unbeaten knock, showcasing remarkable power hitting throughout the innings.

South Africa – Wicket Takers

Lungi Ngidi was the most successful bowler for Proteas, picking three wickets for 31 runs in his four overs. Lutho Sipamla (2/38 in 4 overs) and Donovan Ferreira (1/13 in 2 overs) are the other wicket takers for them.

Left arm pacer Arshdeep Singh struck early, dismissing key batter Quinton de Kock for a duck on the second ball. Arshdeep Singh struck again in his second over, dismissing Stubbs(14) to provide India with their crucial second breakthrough.

They failed to find momentum during the chase, losing wickets at regular intervals and struggled to build any substantial partnership. All bowlers contributed brilliantly, helping India bowl South Africa out for just 74 runs in a dominant team performance.

Bumrah becomes second Indian to take 100 T20I wickets

Jasprit Bumrah became the second Indian to take 100 T20I wickets, following Arshdeep Singh (107). Bumrah also joined the elite club, taking 100 wickets in all formats of the game.
