Australia wins low scoring thriller to secure World Cup final spot against India

Australia beats South Africa by 3 wickets in low scoring thriller and enter into their eight ODI World cup final. After restricting South Africa to 212 in 49.4 overs they cased down the target in 47.2 overs.

Elected to bat first South African top order collapsed to 24/4 in 11.5 overs. David Miller’s(101 runs from 116 balls) outstanding century and Heinrich Klassen (47 runs from 48 balls) innings helped them to reach 212. Both put together 95 runs for the fifth wicket.

Apart from Miller and Klassen partnership South Africa failed to build good partnerships. Left arm pacer Mitchell Starc (3/34 in 10 overs) and captain Pat Cummins (3/51 in 9.4 overs) took three wickets each.

Josh Hazlewood picked 2 wickets and bowled an economical spell by giving just 12 runs in his 8 over. Travis Head (2/21 in 5 overs) is the other wicket taker for Australia.

Travis Head (62 runs from 48 balls) and David Warner (29 runs from 18 balls) given Australia a rapid start in the chase by scoring 60 runs in 6.1 overs. South African bowlers made a good come back after the opening wicket partnership broken by Aiden Makram by dismissing David Warner.

From 60/0 in 6 overs South Africa fell to 137/5 in 23.4 overs. Steven Smith (30 runs from 62 balls) and Josh Ingilis (28 runs from 49 balls) put together 37 runs from 59 balls for the 6th wicket before Gerald Coetzee dismissed both of them.

Mitchell Starc (16* runs from 38 balls) and Pat Cummins (14 runs from 29 balls) batted patiently and helped Australia to cross the line to reach their eight World Cup final. They will meet India in the Final on Sunday (19/11/2023).
